We are planners at our house, working hard to squeeze as much out of our days as possible and Saturday has become our Sabbath, so that Sunday we can top it off with worship (like frosting on the cake, the cherry on top!) and then execute our to-do’s to get ready for a great week. I’m on a break as I type this (the Christmas decorations can stay up a little longer!) – eager to share with you my homemade laundry detergent recipe. And by secret, I mean that my dear friend Rebecca found it online and handed it to me on a post-it. Kudos to the person who came up with it, because it’s a keeper!

The reason this recipe is so wonderful is that it is so much cheaper than what you buy on the shelf, it works FANTASTIC and most important – it is free from all of the toxic chemicals found in most detergents, LOVE! All of the ingredients originated in the 1800’s… why, oh why, have we strayed so far?

SECRET RECIPE

1 cup Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (Est. 1874)

1 cup Borax (Est. 1891)

1 bar Fels-Naptha (Est. 1894)

DIRECTIONS | I cut up the bar of Fels-Naptha into chunks (I am pretty sure that Rebecca grates it, but WAY too much work for an impatient task master like myself…). Throw the cut up bar into a processor of some sort (I use our old Ninja that’s on it’s last leg), put in a cup of the Washing Soda and a cup of the Borax and then blend it up. Voila! The recipe said to use 1Tbsp. per load, but Rebecca said she likes to use 2, and she is trustworthy, so I followed suit. Other tidbits: I like to make 4 batches at a time and typically have to go to Wal-Mart to find the ingredients, but have also ran into them at the Hy-Vee… to a healthy and happy Sunday!
